Built on an island on the Indre, Azay-le-Rideau was erected under Francois I by one of his financiers, Gilles Berthelot. Emerging from a romantic park, Azay-le-Rideau has not undergone any major conversion. Its architecture offers a perfect combination of traditional elements and features taken from Italian art.
